Welcome to Pause to Play
In five sessions, you will rebuild your skills and relationship with the piano step by step, guided by in-person online video lessons, supportive practice tools, and thoughtful encouragement. This isn’t about perfection or performance, it’s about rediscovering what you love.

Do you find yourself…
Spending as much time planning your practice as actually practicing - procrastinating is often a sign of feeling unsure in how to progress.
Feeling unclear at what level to re-enter at when picking repertoire - when there are so many options, how do you know where to start.
Spending hours scrolling through videos on YouTube, hoping to find help or support, but always coming up short.
Not knowing how to tackle your practicing and not seeing any progress when you do sit down at the keys.
Feeling like perfectionism is holding you back from reaching your full potential.
Missing the joy and calm that playing used to bring you.
By the end of five sessions, you will:
Play through chosen pieces with renewed confidence and insight, bringing fresh interpretation to music you love
Approach new or familiar repertoire with greater independence, knowing how to structure your practice and problem-solve as you play
Feel more assured in your own musical abilities, regardless of how long it's been since you last played
Feel inspired and reconnected to your musical journey, with a renewed sense of joy, purpose, and creativity at the piano

This isn’t just wishful thinking.

“I came back to the piano after over 25 years away carrying a huge amount of anxiety. The idea of playing to anyone filled me with dread, even playing to a teacher. Matthew understood - he just got it. He helped me to gradually build my confidence by playing about with little sections of music - exploring and enjoying the music, rather than having to perform a whole piece. And somehow, he's achieved a miracle! I can now play to him without nerves taking over, and feel like I can just relax and enjoy the music. I love lessons with Matthew. He is incredibly knowledgeable, his enthusiasm and love of music is contagious, and most importantly, he is human!”
— Jenny
I restarted lessons as an adult student with previous piano experience and mixture of feelings of excitement, anxiety and some sense of overwhelm at the thought of returning to piano, where do I start? I was instantly put at ease with Matthew's teaching style, and my confidence blossomed in a short space of time. Being an adult learner and juggling all we have to, I was concerned I wouldn't be able to commit to hours of practice each day. With Matthew's friendly, patient and flexible approach, he has enabled me to connect the dots that I didn't know I was missing, and unlocked the skills I needed to be able to cut my practice time in half, and still progress! It made it possible for me to make time for myself at the piano. A completely different fresh approach to how I have learnt in the past. That has excelled me forwards to a new level to reach my goals. Matthew is a dedicated and outstanding teacher and is very understanding. It is an absolute pleasure to be learning from him, I couldn't have asked for more.
